Headteacher's end of year message 2017

It has been another productive and joyful year for all of Vauxhall family. The school takes pride in all of its achievements this year, a testament to staff’s hardwork, to the loyalty and continued support of all our families and school partners, and to our pupils’ enthusiasm and zest for learning.

Our tried and tested provisions, delivered by our competent teachers and support staff, have once again delivered outstanding outcomes for pupils. Our Year 6 interim Key Stage 2 SATs results show that a very high proportion of our pupils achieved the expected standards and many of them exceeding the expected standards. This applies to our Year 1’s excellent tests results in their Phonics Screening Check which remains to be above the national average. We also witnessed this year one of the best Key Stage 1 results in the last five years.

As a National Support School, this year saw Vauxhall fulfilling its role of supporting other schools in the country. We have also been at the forefront of educational innovation, having completed this year a unique reading program called Reading Masters, where pupils are taught reading skills explicitly. We continue to take pride as a lead school in the development and implementation of Number Masters, a unique programme to improve our children’s number skills in Year 1 and Year 2. This is a programme our pupils thoroughly enjoy and many schools around the country have bought this programme which sees thousands of young pupils enjoying mathematics!

Our vision of achievement for all, delivered through a culture of excellence, continues to be noticed by external organisations. Inclusion Quality Mark recently renewed our status as a Centre of Excellence. We have also completed the Level 1 accreditation as a Rights Respecting School.

This is also a year of enormous change for me personally. After 12 amazing years, I am leaving Vauxhall to assume headship in a school in Streatham Vale. I reiterate my gratitude to all our families, supporters, partners and friends of the school for your continued generosity, commitment, and loyalty. Our partnerships had a solid impact on our pupils’ achievements and that is a reality I will always be proud of.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer and I am sure we will see each other again in the future.
